VTOS

The main objectives of the scheme are: to give unemployed people education and training opportunities that will help them find a job, and to prepare people to go to paid employment or to further educational opportunities leading to paid employment. VTOS courses are free; books and materials may be provided free of charge. Some VECs run sample courses to help you decide on the most appropriate VTOS course to meet your needs. Contact your local VEC for more information.

Weekly social welfare payments will increase by €5 per week with proportional increases for qualified adults and those on reduced rates of payment (see rates table below). This also applies to employment programmes such as Community Employment (CE), Tús and Rural Social Scheme. (March 2017) There will be a special increase of €15 in the weekly rate of Guardian’s Payment (Contributory) and Guardian’s Payment (Non-Contributory) from €161 to €176. (March 2017)
